10 Proven Ways to Increase Your Confidence

Updated: Aug 4, 2020

What does a confident person look like to you? Was it the popular high school cheerleader, your college roommate who was not afraid to say what was on her mind or a coworker who silently works towards her dream?

Confidence has many different faces. Being loud, pushy, and demanding is not a sign of confidence; those are signs of insecurity. Confidence can look like many things, but here a few traits confident people embody.

Confident people live by the following guidelines:

  1. They know and accept who they are

  2. No matter what, they believe in their abilities

  3. They are not afraid to learn and push outside of their comfort zone

  4. They have control over their thoughts and actions and guide themselves to keeping a positive attitude

  5. They practice gratitude and forgiveness

  6. They don't let life's obstacles hold them back. Instead, they learn and keep moving

  7. Failure is a steppingstone to growth

  8. They accept people for who they are

  9. Have faith in something bigger than themselves

  10. Have healthy boundaries

Steps to increase your confidence:

  • Re-read the list next to each line item and rank 1-3 how confident you feel with each rule (1- not at all, 2-somewhat, 3-feels good)

  • Re-write your list ranking them with your three first, then two, and then 1

  • Pick one rule to focus on

  • Learn and grow – we all learn and grow differently find books, podcasts, YouTube videos, or journals that will help you practice and strengthen.

  • Repeat - keep coming back to your list, review and grow until you have all threes

Disclaimer

I wish someone told me years ago that just because you are confident doesn't make your life any less painful. You will still hurt when bad things happen; there will still be times when you feel insecure our doubt yourself. The difference is what you do next. How you pick yourself up, how you talk to yourself, and how you move on.

Why is confidence important?

It's all about your wellbeing. When you feel good about who you are; you can overcome. You have a strong understanding that you will be ok. You have the confidence to try something new, to push out of your comfort zone, because if you fail, you have faith that you will get back up.

Do you want to fly? You have to build your confidence! I promise you, even if you don't feel like you are very confident. Step by step, you will get there. You are worth it; the world deserves to see you. You deserve to be seen.

XOXO
