5 Habits That Will Allow You to Live a Happier More Purposeful Life

Do you want to wake up every day and say, “I love my life”? To live a life full of passion and purpose?

If so, you are not alone. Every day thousands of people ask Google how to be happier, looking for solutions to boost their happiness and I was one of those people.

Back in December 2017, I had three beautiful babies, a thriving business, and a lovely home in a great school district. What more could I want!?!

My sanity, for one!

I worked my butt off to grow my company. I ran myself into the ground to take care of my very young children’s needs that I forgot about ME. My cup was dangerously empty, and at that time I did not even know it. Living in a constant state of anxiety and burnout had become my norm.

My goal is to show you that you CAN make small (or if you want BIG) changes to your life and experience more happiness than you ever have before.

Here is the biggest secret of life: your happiness comes from within. 99% of the time, you have everything you need right in front of you to live a happier life. Will the path be easy? Maybe, but probably not. For some, you will need to heal old wounds while for others you will need to create healthy boundaries or break bad habits.

Sometimes I wish I was a fairy godmother and could wave my magic wand, sprinkle some fairy dust and help those around me discover their happiness. We all deserve to feel loved, worthy and happy. Too often happiness feels just out of reach.

But this is what I do know; these 5 habits are simple, and you can implement them all into your life today or one at a time.

You have the power to make this change.

Want to be Happier? Do these 5 things every day.

1. Gratitude

Practice writing what you are grateful for every single day.

2. Meditation

If you are new to meditation, find a few minutes every day to focus on your breathing. Want some help? My favorite meditation comes from the Peloton app.

3. Sleep

Sleep a minimum of 7-9 hours a night. This must be good quality sleep. Try to avoid caffeine after 2 pm, alcohol, drugs, or cigarettes as they will affect your sleep quality. I have found that even natural sleep aids will help me sleep, but can make it difficult to wake up

4. Purpose

Make sure you are living a life full of purpose by aligning your goals, values, and priorities with your daily tasks and events.

5. Breaks

Get into the habit of working in small breaks throughout the day. If you are working in an office environment, share with your manager the studies on how taking 5-minute breaks every 60 minutes makes employees happier and more productive!

Small changes can make a big impact over time. Isn’t it time for you to start your happiness journey today?

If you are dealing with depression, severe anxiety, or healing from trauma please know that reaching out for help is one of the bravest things a person can do. I am a firm believer that working with a qualified therapist is vital to our mental health and wellbeing.

These suggestions will help increase your happiness. They are time-tested and mentioned across many popular self-growth books, successful individuals, and religious practices. However, these practices are not to replace therapy or medication if needed.
